Living in Bisbee, I can tell you that the Deportation is still a hot topic here. I’ve met people whose families were deported, and others whose families did the deporting. There’s no official monument to the event, because there’s no consensus as to whether it was a terrible or fantastic thing. The only monument is on the grave of the journalist killed during the round up, and that was privately placed less than 20 years ago.
