Congress is supposed to be a co-equal branch of government. This should be a no-brainer. Congress shouldn’t have to be kowtowing to the Executive to have security clearances for their staff, either. The congressional Republicans were happy enough to abandon all these powers, either being scared of Trump’s base or abandoning their own responsibilities to second-guess and throw rocks at Obama.
