My wife’s aunt’s father was in the crew that first entered Hitler’s hideaway. She has artifacts he brought back…a knife, a swastika flag from a motorcycle, a piece of tile from Hitler’s bathtub, and a piece from Eva’s - all labeled…and a couple of other things. She had it all framed and displayed it in the entry to her condo for a few years. Finally someone said, “I know your dad was on our side, but this isn’t a good image.” and now it’s in her basement guest room and not so obvious.

My grandfather was there too. Somewhere hidden in my father’s garage is a candlestick holder that has a swastika base and Hitler’s… nutcracker. It’s shaped like a woman’s legs.

It’s nothing we ever displayed, but I think the nutcracker is hilarious and I’ll never get rid of it.
