So a 44 year-old friend of mine and his 47 year-old wife are currently expecting another child (she’s about 4 months along).
Their second youngest is 16. They are not too happy about the new arrival but she does plan to carry to term.
As he put it to me: “We thought she was too old to get pregnant so we didn’t really take precautions.”
Oops.
That is a remarkably old age to still be fertile. I would guess the percentage of women who can still get pregnant at 47 without medical assistance is fractions of a percent.
