Tell me, when did the United States reach this belief that Taxes are the ultimate Evil??

I mean I know nobody likes paying taxes and the government is spectacularly good at wasting money, BUT taxes go to pay for a lot of things we all take for granted.

Does these people understand how different our day to day life would be if all taxation suddenly stopped? It wouldn’t be sunshine and rainbows that’s for sure.
