The difference, and it’s a big difference, is that the stories originating at Think Progress or Media Matters are always factual; they link to original sources and provide video or audio clips.

On the other hand, the stuff coming out of Heritage and Cato is almost always insanely biased, and often completely false. Heritage especially is deeply invested in promoting fake conspiracy theories to the right wing.

Agreed. I stopped reading CAP sites after the “Israel Firster” thing. I’m wary of their agenda but their reporting on most issues is pretty accurate.
Regardless of accuracy what I’m wonder about is their influence. It’s seems independent blogosphere never really materialized and content seems to mostly come from a handful of think tanks.
I imagine some of it is paid for. I assume big bloggers like Breitbart or Andrew Sullivan might get some financial support from them.
