According to French news report (it is a bigger story here), the CEO of Total had waited since the US election to see how this might impact their overall relationship with the US, and it’s only recently that they “wrote off” Trump entirely and decided to damn the torpedoes & go ahead. Like Merkel & many others, they concluded they could no longer deal with the US Government, under Trump, that is. I bet Tillerson’s former pals aren’t to happy about this either.

I think Trump’s stupid foreign policy on trade, etc. will help push him out the door.

If enough big business people see they are going to be losing business ($$$) with Trump in office, they will look for ways to push him out. Add the investigations and his general lousy character and you may have all the reason for the money men to help light a fire under the recalcitrant GOPers. The Republicans may want to keep and use Trump, but if the big wheels in the GOP want him gone he will be gone.

Politics is one thing, money is bigger.
