All their lives they’d been told that everybody had a “place” in society and theirs was at the big table. Now “those people” who would work for whatever they could get couldn’t be turned away from the head table, would put in longer hours and work harder shifts to get that piece of the pie that they’d been eyeing for ages.

Obama could have been held up as proof that the American Dream works, and that anyone, regardless of race or origin who works hard enough can make it all the way to the top.

But that might have meant acknowledging his accomplishments, even begrudgingly. It was easier for them to pain Obama as a Kenyan-born usurper Manchurian Candidate crypto-Islamist Affirmative-Action poster child.
