Another way of looking at it is that the GOP swallowed the bait.

Embracing BDS didn’t not provide Obama with the win in November - yes, running as ‘not Bush’ did help - but the main message was ‘Hope and Change’ which swung the moderates his way. His poll numbers are in trouble because he’s not really delivering on the moderate version of Hope and Change…as evidenced by the Stimulus, Cap and Trade, and Health Care reform as the primary initiatives that are causing massive angst.

Embracing ODS will not help the GOP with win’s - just as embracing the Birchers, 4409’ers, and associated libretarian loons will not help engage and away the moderates or center/right. It’s not difficult, just avoid taking the loony bait - and develop / articulate cogent ideas and visions.
