I voted for Reagan twice, and I’m not ashamed to say it. Sure his first term wasn’t that great but he had inherited a complete mess from Carter (almost as bad a mess as Obama has inherited from Bush). But he had the personal charisma to make you believe him when he said he was trying to do better. Reagan was not afraid to try things, and if they didn’t work to admit that and try something else.

It wasn’t that he had a godlike infallible intellect or was guided by a higher power as some would have you believe now and are too young to have actually experienced it. It was that when he screwed up, he admitted that he had, asked for your forgiveness, and then told you what he was going to try next.

The pundits and fanatical fanboys have turned Reagan into something he never was, and would probably be mortified by, a pseudo idealistic standard of perfection against which all other Presidents must be judged. If he were still here I think he would be the first to denounce that as complete bullshit.
