re: #49 stpaulbear

I’ve been deciding whether or not to treat myself to a really superb turntable this birthday. I’ve been assembling a wish list at Needle Doctor and my dream choice is coming in at $1800 w/ tax. There are very few grown-up toys that I even want all that much so I’m close to (but not totally) feeling justified for this indulgence, but I haven’t hit ‘checkout’ yet. It’s a shitload of money.

I’ve already decided I’m going to hang onto most of my LP collection until I drop dead.

Just stopped by to lurk and if you want a completely honest opinion from a man who has spent thousands on musical amps and instruments and effects, and sold thousands of same…..If you buy top quality you will never lose money like you would on lesser quality if you need to sell it. Top quality keeps it’s value. Now with that being said, you have a vinyl collection that you will keep. What are you saving them for except to enjoy? Give them the ability. And the final kicker….If you go solely on saving a buck and not buying what you wanted to?…..You will hear that in every play. “I cudda had a V8!” Just my humble opinion. If you do not buy overpriced, it will maintain it’s value. (like your vinyl). Don’t overpay. The rest will sort itself out. JMHO.
Now…what speakers and tubes and needle are we talking about…..(//)
