re: #47 The Ghost of a Flea
The Timm/McDuffy cartoons got me into DC. Itās such a good version of the DC roster.
Man I wish the current DC āuniverseā would take more cues from that period. This whole ādarkā thing is just drab and shallow.
DC and Warner Bros. have a problem with wildly misunderstanding the point of superheroes. They took Superman, their Big Blue Scout, their poster boy for optimism, and tried to turn him into an edgelord. They did the same thing for Captain Marvel. They took the Flash, who always had one of the best costumes in the comics biz, and turned it into some crazy-busy armored thing.
They seem to go through periods where they remember, hey, grimdark is a sometimes food! And then it seems like they relapse and dive right into the āEveryone wears spikes, superheroes kill people all the time and never smile, Plastic Man isnāt fun unless heās scaryā pile of bullshit.
Not that Marvel doesnāt fuck up plenty. (Hello, āCaptain America is now a Nazi!ā) But at least they have Disney to breathe down their necks about not turning their Highly Marketable Properties into a maze of snapped ribs and blood bruisesā¦
