Trump most likely assumes that everyone is just like him, on the inside if not on the outside. It’s simply doesn’t occur to him that people might be otherwise.

See, Trump certainly wouldn’t want to have to worry about being “outshined” which is why he picked Pence, who has all the charisma of a glass of water that’s been sitting all day on the counter. Naturally, Trump assumes Biden would act in the same fashion.

It’s pure narcissism.

To be fair, Trump didn’t want or like Pence; his favorite was Christie. It was Manafort and Priebus and probably Jared (who hated Christie for prosecuting his father) who forced Pence on him.
