Not really. They had no chance. The money on the other side was too much. Their paid mouthpieces too vocal. The Senate bill is milquetoast but it *did* kick the can down the road a bit. Health care reform, and a single-payer system, will be a slow process here. Single-payer may *never* happen. We may end up with a system like the Swiss or the Germans, where insurance companies are tightly controlled, can’t deny coverage, and premiums are set by rule.

Yet, amazingly, they still make tidy profits. Fancy that.
