Here comes my nerd mode. In one of the Star Wars books, a captive Han Solo is talking to the engineer who designed the Death Star. She explains that she was told the laser would be used for mining purposes, like destroying a large and dense asteroid or planet to mine the valuable minerals in the core.
Solo: “Even with that explanation, how could you think it was peaceful? They named it the ‘Death Star’.”
Meh. Kevin J Anderson’s Star Wars books felt so flat after Timothy Zahn’s work.
