re: #630 Dr Lizardo

True enough, but what?

Have the ICC announce a case being opened against Yanukovych? Seize the assets of Yanukovych and his allies? An Interpol arrest warrant for Yanukovych and members of the ruling party?

What can they really do?

This is what I hate about the whole realpolitik thing. Practical self-interest always seems to trump ideology/ideals. Look at how quickly we—not all of us, but many—were willing to forgo certain supposedly cherished notions of freedom, fairness, due process, etc. when we felt directly, personally threatened.

These Ukrainian protestors are putting their lives & freedom on the line in pursuit of an ideal. IMO, it’s a noble thing that deserves respect, I don’t blame them for their disdain, no matter how hopeless their current situation may seem.

Would that I would have their courage & conviction if ever faced with a similar situation. We Americans wouldn’t have the comfort, security, and freedoms we enjoy if our own forefathers hadn’t done put it all on the line.
