Being the descendent of immigrants - as is everyone else here posting who isn’t from one of the native tribes, I fail too see how Americans get to be anti immigrant. I am not saying that we shouldn’t regulate immagration, but the idea of being against it is pretty anti American.
I’m an immigration lawyer. From where I stand, I think there are serious benefits and serious detriments regarding our illegal immigrants. Many of them do pay their taxes (and those who don’t, usually don’t out of the mistaken fear that paying taxes will lead to getting caught.) They help many businesses survive that otherwise could not. On the other hand, there are definitly places that are overwhelmed by their numbers and in regard to their services, i.e., hospital treatment… Its a serious problem that deserves serious thought. The issue is absolutely explosive however. More explosive than abortion, you name it in my opinion. Hence, nothing will be done. Too many other fish to fry.
