Exactly. Star Wars is Lord Of The Rings meets Dune meets Flash Gordon.

It’s a fairy tale. With sci-fi elements thrown in. That’s it. It’s high fantasy in outer space. Even the very beginning of the film, “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” - what’s that but “Once upon a time in a far-off, distant land….”, in other words, the beginning of every fairy tale ever. Almost every one of my Czech students has picked up on that immediately.

Seriously.

It’s one thing to argue about the science in The Martian, since that’s presented as hard sci-fi with realistic elements thrown in. It’s another to argue about Star Wars. That’s like the idiots who are complaining that Hermione will be black in the Harry Potter stage play.
