they are implying that his right to work status was checked
they are doing that because his ‘employer’ is the brother of a prominent republican
“we did our part” / plausable deniability

that is (relatively) easy to game

two things are still unclear
- how he documented his right to work
- whether he first in fact entered the country legally and is still allowed to be here
