Since an invasion of Taiwan now appears to be assured before ‘21 starts anyway, and the main reason it didn’t declare independence several times over the past 25 years is that said declaration would guarantee an invasion, would Taipei be better off just declaring itself independent once and for all, renouncing all claims on Mainland China, and suppressing any remaining KMT types who have a problem with being a little country forever?

Maybe they’d be able to pull together a couple allies to try to at least roll the mainland back out of the place after it inevitably takes over, that way.
