Yeah, why is it tougher to get through to the IRS during tax season. Well, the reason is simply - Congress cut IRS appropriations to do everything from audits to customer service, so they’re trying to do more with less. Your wait time will now be longer for refunds too - which actually benefits the government because they make money on the interest free loan they get by holding on to excess withholdings.
