It’s not about ACORN, it’s about the dog-whistle. Any time you read ACORN imagine you are seeing (read: black people). The GOP has to make sure that the populist rage of its base is channeled towards the appropriate sources. ACORN would be a good source, the immensely wealthy banking oligarchs that created this mess are a bad one.

They’re doing their darnedest to ensure that the pitchforked mob channels their anger towards “community organizers” rather than the monied oligarchy. And I must say it’s working. I can’t believe the percentage of people I have encountered who are utterly convinced that the Community Reinvestment Act is the entire reason why the economy imploded. Glass Steagal, they’ve never heard of it.
