I’m a little surprised by that, too. I’d have thought the USSS would freak if he weren’t taking AF1, given all the security stuff that’s gone into that plane.

If he wanted this to be understood as a private function and not as president, then I can see not taking AF1. But whether you like it or not you are president 24/7. You have to stay in contact with the military, the state, etc. I don’t like the idea of him traveling with such limited security and “out of earshot,” as it were. Blackberry or no blackberry.
