Given how it was driven by our xenophobia & religion (wine = catholics & other southern Europeans or worse, while the Baptists, Methodists and etc put grape juice into the communion cups to make their hate normalized.)

Looking at the history of the later “war on drugs” I’m more surprised that they ever passed the amendment ending the disaster of prohibition.

Actually, it wasn’t ended, just passed back to “local option”. I still can’t buy a box of wine on Sunday morning.
