You can bet that’s another lie.

There’s no way $50 a night is market rate.

It’s not market rate in DC. It’s not even market rate in many parts of the country.

From something I saw (on this site maybe) is that it is the going rate, for a room shared with 8 other people. And the bathroom is down the hall.
