re: #57 WindUpBird

yeah, I see folks who (I believe) need to put aside the drastic solution 9surgery) in favor of the non-drastic solution of therapy and addressing alienation.

LOT of TG folks in fandom. And some people in fandom come to fandom because they’re alienated from everything else. It’s a hard thing, with no easy solutions. But you have people that covet a self image, and that becomes everything. and they chase that, and make irreversible decisions. And what happens when that doesn’t work! Now you’ve spent all this money and undergone this incredibly invasive surgery, and if the hole isn’t filled?

Sorta like the corporate careerist, the social climber who gets the mighty job and realizes he’s still unhappy, and his problems are still there. he just has more money to distract him.

These are very necessary conversations because the focus are on the issues and not on the politics.

Seriously.

Not all righties are of the ‘hang ‘em all because they are going to hell’ variety’ and not all lefties are of the ‘Act Up let’s do it on the church altarand Sister Boom Boom are reasonable activities’ variety.

Take away the political (and hateful religious) components and we have what to talk about.

Fact is, we need to have the conversation. Gays cannot be excluded from full participation because of their sexual orientation any more than religious people can be excluded because fo their beliefs.

The matter really is serious.
