The GOP’s entire raison d’tre died when the Soviet Union collapsed and the Cold War ended. All their ideas are stuck in 1989, and it shows. Just look at the rhetoric about socialism and about commies they keep spewing daily on talk radio, and the way they look at the rest of the world.

They desperately want another Cold War. It’s the only way they know how to exist, and why they’re in a demographic nightmare right now.

They want the Cold War back because that’s the last time they were truly relevant. Dubya tried to sell the country on a new endless war with terrorists and lost when folks realized that war isn’t as glamorous as Hollywood portrayed it back in the day.
