You are probably right, but just for the heck of it why doesn’t Obama fire Napolitano’s sorry ass and then send a non-pol military type in there and clean out some of the dead wood? Oh, and while he’s at it, why doesn’t he try calling the Islamofascist terrorist threat by its real name, instead of tiptoeing through the tulips with this “isolated extremist” bullshit?
Both steps are crucial, IMO.

I think DHS was a mistake from the very beginning. All it did was add another layer of bureaucracy on top of what already existed, and it has obviously done nothing to reduce inter-agency squabbling and information hoarding.

A better approach would have been to eliminate several agencies by merging them into one, focusing on those that duplicate each other’s efforts. It would have been a bigger headache, but in the end we would have a leaner, more efficient intelligence service that was focused on doing it’s job rather than defending it’s turf against incursions by other departments.

The opportunity to do so, sadly, has passed.
