Are you suggesting that there was not a religious basis for those “gender roles” back then?

There was a practical reason for gender roles before contraception, electric washing machines, vacuums and dishwashing machines.

It made more sense for the man to plow the fields and the woman to stay with the kids and do the household tasks.
