I was a big Civil War history buff in high school, and the stand of the 1st Minnesota was courage personified. Their flag hangs in the Capitol Building, which I need to go and see; the flag they captured during Pickett’s Charge, that of the 28th Virginia, we keep locked away across town.

I have the IRish brigade’s flag colors tattooed on me and I’m proud of my German born second great grandfather who enlisted for the Union.
