Well, this has been an interesting thread. I just had a long conversation with a good friend from West Michigan who argued every right wing talking point. In fact, the reason he even called me was b/c of a post I made on my FB page. We discussed evolution, AGW, church/state, abortion, and several personal issues. In each part of the conversation I explained my views, as did he, of where we’re coming from. While on the issue of abortion we agreed, I mentioned also that while it is among the primary issues of importance to me, it is one of many, and so I can’t use it as a stand alone issue that defines everything I do. But on every other issue he spoke every talking point I’ve heard before. It was pretty amazing. to be honest. I feel like I’ve been prepared for this very kind of conversation by LGF and the links it has provided. As a matter of fact I was helped by the Big Bang theory video posted earlier today to answer his questions regarding red shift and the background radiation. My knowledge of that was directly helped by the post I read. Hopefully he’ll read what I recommend. He’s a close friend. I value my relationship with him. And I respect that he decided to call me instead of posting a snarky comment on my FB page. This is the kind of dialogue that can change minds among Christian conservatives. Or at least let them know that other Christians come to different conclusions. Christians like me.
