Really, the wingnuts love to convince themselves that the Nazis were socialists and on the left yet willingly ignore how the first people after Jews that the Nazis went after were leftists or how they associated Judaism with leftism. It’s more of the right refusing to admit that many of their ideological ancestors were okay with Hitler and Mussolini for a time.

Actually, they went after the leftists first. That’s what Dachau was originally built for; a concentration camp for political prisoners. Later on, of course, it’s role was expanded, but in the beginning of Nazi rule in 1933 the first prisoners were the communists and members of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (the actual socialists).
