More Advertisers Drop Beck

As someone who considers himself a moderate Democrat, I don’t like Beck, but probably not for any reason you’d think. I don’t like Beck because what he is doing to the ‘base’ of the GOP.

I firmly believe in the two party system and that they should work together for the good of the country, addressing the issues we face as a united nation. Beck and those like him, on the right AND the left, make this unlikely if not impossible by encouraging divisiveness and contention, and damned ugly mouth-frothing madness.

There will be some no doubt who don’t think I’m being sincere, but let me assure you that I am. While some might think we can do without the Republicans (Kosaks), and others that we can do without the Democrats (Freepers), those are the two major parties in this country and neither should ever have carte blanche over it’s legislature. A weak GOP during a DEM prevalence is as much a danger to this nation as a week DEM during a GOP dominance.

Beck and others are feeding the crazy in the country and encouraging a rift that will take God only knows how many years to heal, if it can ever actually be healed. Ignorant, stupid, baseless crazy has no place in honest dialog. The GOP is there to balance the Democrats and they can’t do that effectively when they parrot the insanity of groups who flog the “Obama is a Sekret Muslin” (sic), “Obama isn’t American”, “Democrats are not Real Americans”, “It’s all a Fascist/Marxist/Islamic/Communist takeover”.

None of that is adult discourse. None of that advances us as a country. And none of that has one damn thing to do with governing this nation.

I fully support Beck’s right to say what he likes, and my right to call him on it. Color Of Change has every right to present Becks statements to his advertisers and ask them to remove their support from his show just as the advertisers have every right to agree with Beck and not withdraw that support.

But most of all I support the ruling parties to engage in honest, logical, adult governance to the betterment of us all and that can’t happen when hyperbole is the flavor of the day and innuendo replaces sound thinking.
