re: #614 avanti

OK, but one thing I always wondered, why are many on the right opposed to talking to a former enemy ? What is the down side to diplomacy ? I notice more nuke um, than talk to them threads. We have better relations with Vietnam then with Cuba, and I don’t get it.

I would dispute the characterization of Cuba as a “former” enemy. The last time I looked, it was still behaving in the manner that caused us to sever relations with it, and clamp down the sanctions, in the first place.

The words “One of the last surviving Communist police states on Earth” come to mind, for some reason.

As for Raul Castro saying that “everything is on the table” negotiations-wise (negotiations for what, exactly?), I’m reminded of Sun-Tzu’s axiom;

When your enemy asks for negotiations without a prior understanding, he is plotting.

/No, I don’t trust Raul, the CO of Fidel’s secret police, anymore than I do Fidel himself.
