Some of the Asian market slide could be due to the Chinese New Year coming up in another 10 days or so. Individuals will be taking profits to fund those holiday feasts and the “lucky money” given to kids. I’m not sure if Asian firms use fiscal years pegged to the lunar calendar or the common one, so can’t say if they also make decisions based on the end of the lunar year.

Of course, the DJIA and NASDAQ aren’t doing so hot, so that’s another big effect on the Asian markets.

Do not forget that China’s largest credit rating agency recently downgraded US securities, citing “political deficiencies”.
