I watched the Childish Gambino video “This is America” and I read what people here had to say. In my opinion, and I could be wrong, the guy on the horse with the cop car following behind could be more than just Death with Hell following after. I thought it also had overtones of slave overseers on their horses, watching the slaves in the fields during antebellum times, followed by today’s version of the guys in cop cars watching over black communities with ill intent. Plus I thought Gambino was evoking slavery by being shirtless and at first glance, appearing barefoot. I think that was brought home by the end scene of Gambino running away from blurred pursuers.

Of course, I am only a middle-aged white woman who is not so experienced in reading symbols in videos not made for me (hello, Lemonade), so I could be completely wrong.
