My dad served in the Marines with two other pilots whose parents named them “State’s Rights” and “White Superiority” Brown.
They weren’t brown.
All of us kid’s also grew up with this guy, who went through flight school with my Da and became the first black flag officer in the Marine Corps.
He commanded VMFA-314 a year before my Da got the squadron at Chu Lai.
Frank’s daughter Gayle was my first-grade crush when were all living in Cherry Point. They lived about four doors down from us. Good dog she was sweet. My parents thought it was cute. So did hers.
Amazingly, no one on the base caught cooties from the Negroes.
