I work as a translator/proofreader, which would be an entirely different profession without computers and word processing.
An analogy: Even if you have to spend a whole day waiting for your airline baggage to arrive after a transcontinental flight, you were still quicker than if you had taken a train…
I work as an editor, so there is that (it is quicker when using a word processor over a typewriter and mail).
As for airlines, I don’t really see a difference from the Seventies with preprinted baggage tags, when my baggage got sent to Los Angeles when I went to Brazil and it took a month to find it, or recently with computers when I went from Poland to Regina and my baggage went to Los Angeles, and it took a month to find it.
