We’re approaching the kind of pass system that South Africa had during the apartheid years. Even if you had your papers, there was still no guarantee the cops wouldn’t harass for lulz.

OTOH, as grim as the situation seems to be, while I was in the Great Midwest this summer, I did not witness a single harassment of a PoC or a hijabi, though there were such people where I was.
