More reactionary-ism. To the impending future. They can’t stop it, but they can put on the biggest tantrum.

Which is itself really just a repeat of where the world found itself towards the beginning of the previous century. The rapid progress in the wake of the Industrial Era, coupled with the suddenly change of the world stage with various revolutions and civil wars, left a world that had a lot of major new players who were eager to put their mark on the future. Couple that with old empires that wished to keep the young upstarts in line and you had a powder keg waiting to explode. Telegraphs, telephones, steam ships, railroads, and automobiles were shrinking the world at a pace that had never been seen.

It’s not a 1-to-1 resemblance, but there’s enough similarity that you can hum along without missing too many notes.
