T-Mobile is not a landline provider.

Scammers like to spoof your area code and first 3 digits (what used to be called the “exchange”) to trick seniors into thinking the call is from a neighbor. It makes no sense on a cell phone. I don’t even answer those calls.

I tend to answer my cell phone and hang up quickly if I don’t think it’s a legitimate source. The problem with ignoring calls from my area code is that they could be from a doctor’s/hospital office and I don’t have every number stored on my phone. Usually I disconnect quickly if it seems fraudulent or something that doesn’t interest me. There was one time that I started ranting at such a caller who claimed I owed money — and then discovered it was legitimate — some medical bill that Medicare disallowed.
