Ah, see, in another life, I was a percussionist. Trust me when I say we relished those moments where we could really lay into the drums and shock the ever-loving shit out of our brass-wielding friends immediately to our front (and the band director, despite her ALSO being a percussionist). I haven’t touched a pair of sticks in a good 15 years, which is sad, but I have no doubt that a couple of hours would put me right back in service.

My son this year in is senior year was the leader of the clarinet section in his marching band. It wasn’t a role he sought or wanted. He asked to be switched to the percussion section because he’s ok at some minor roles there but really because he just loves the fun that they have when they play.
