There’s a sort of reverse problem here in Western Europe sometimes. Flights from North America all arrive early in the morning, which of course sucks for getting your hotel room. So if you’re rich or more likely have a really good corporate travel policy, sometimes the booking agent will book a hotel room for the night before so you can go right from the airport to the hotel room at 8:30 am and freshen up/crash/whatever. The agent will try to leave all sorts of notes in the booking that the client isn’t going to check in until the AM, but I’ve heard stories about the hotels giving away the room anyways (to great ire, of course). You’d think major hotels would get used to the idea.

When I had to travel from the US to Europe, I did the normal thing and sat in the park for hours until it was a reasonable time to go to the hotel and make sad doggie eyes at the desk until they let me in. Much easier going the other way.
