It has been bizarre watching this side of Dreher come to the surface over the last ten years as he shares his self-radicalization into a person who actually admits he would have fought on the side of the fucking Nazis in Spain, pimps his enthusiasm for a wildly racist book called The Camp of The Saints (Steve Bannon really likes it also) and continually condemns liberal democracy and the Enlightenment as failed models of human thought.

What’s worse is that this guy gets guest op ed space in the NYT and is taken seriously as some sort of Christian “intellectual”.

Long story I’ll share sometime, but about 12 years ago while working as a magazine editor I and corresponded extensively with Rod and edited a column of his we published.
He’s not stupid. He’s Exhibit A of checking your brain and heart at the door in service to religious ideology. He’s a study in the dark side of the obedience to authority demanded by Orthodox Christianity.
Playing armchair psychologist, I think the political awakening of his teenagers is going to bring down his Jenga tower, along with the exposure of the great corruption that exists in the Orthodox Church globally.
