His “side show” is actually of considerable value. The left hated Bush right from the start. There was nothing Bush could have done about that, since the left was butthurt over having lost a disputed election. They would have painted as “EVIL!!1” no matter what he did.

Bush’s approval was at 90% following 9/11….Yes, eventually the Cindy Sheehans and Sean Penns of the world became common place but it’s undeniable that the majority of “the left” supported Bush in a time of crisis.
