Sort of, yes. If you are going to give tax advice to poor people who live in the inner city you have to be prepared to deal with illegal activity. If it were up to me I’d suggest that prostitutes and drug dealers file taxes as ‘street vendors’ and pay appropriate state and federal tax. But now that I think about it there’s probably a license thing with street vendors so that might not work. I guess you could just arrest them on the spot but everybody else would probably vacate the waiting room.

Has it occurred to you that we might not actually want criminals getting good tax advice? And try this on for size: if you set up shop prepared to give tax advice to criminals, that is people who you know are engaged in illegal activity for profit, aren’t you simply moonlighting for the bad guys?

I am frankly stunned.
