I don’t get it either. And of course the Serbians themselves were treated horribly by the Croatians and Germans during WWII. I remember hearing that some of the concentration camps that the Utasse had for the Serbs horrified even the SS. The Balkans is truly a tragic region. A beautiful place- my garndfather’s parents were from Slovenia and I am relieved that Slovenia has avoided much of the blood shed that has engulfed the region since the end of the Cold War but at the same time saddened to see it.

Even though I don’t harbor any ill will towards Croats in general, I was still disturbed and horrified to encounter Ustase supporters in Australia when I used to live there a few years back. Of course they were young and hot-blooded, but for fuck’s sake, they were fascist pricks and do not deserve glorification whatsoever.

And agreed about the Balkans, such a beautiful place, I just wished Tito was still around to preserve the unity of the entire region. But what’s done is done and it is important for all of them to look forward. I await the day when Sarajevo reclaim its crown as Europe’s Jerusalem once more.
