What it boils down to is if the GOP goes against Trump, they can still get most of what they want legislatively from Pence but they will also piss off their base.

The same base that loves Trump.

The same base that will be critical in next years midterms.

They might be ok with being the minority party in Congress with a Pence administration. They’ll be safe in knowing that Pence won’t sign any hippy sponsored bills and they’ll be able to fling monkey poo at Dems trying to get stuff done.

It’s incredibly short term thinking (if their base isn’t motivated by 2020 they’re looking at losing the White House and Congress). But I’m not convinced the GOP has many long term strategic thinkers left
