That’s actually the Robinson Projection. It is currently the most accurate representation of that is use. The Mercator is a nautical use projection (cylindrical) and, as such, loses lots of land mass accuracy The further you get from the equator. The Robinson is the lastest attemp the decrease that distortion that will appear on any projection and it decreases land mass distortion as compared to the Mercator, greatly.
