re: #53 Decatur Deb

The assembly line that put me through college had 20,000 workers, most of us union stiffs. Now it has 12,000, half of them code monkeys and such.

For me, it was typing and/or word processing. My mom had made me take a class in 7th grade, on the grounds that “a girl who can type will never have to wait tables.” Throughout high school and college and for ten more years after, I did temp work — as much or as little as I wanted, any shifts I wanted, for 3x minimum wage.

It’s not even a job anymore; 3rd graders do it. A kid who can’t, that’s about as weird as if he can’t tie his own shoes.
